Doctor Glas: A Novel
This Anchor paperback is a compact English-language edition of Söderberg’s 1905 novel, published in 2002. Its diary form follows a Stockholm physician whose private reasoning moves toward a grave moral decision. Paul Britten Austin is credited as translator, and Margaret Atwood contributes the introduction to this edition.
As the final stop in the site’s reading route, the novel changes the reader’s scale. The guidebook offers districts and paths; this text makes the city subjective, seasonal and unstable. It is the shelf’s most text-led selection and the only novel.
